''[[laws:| <<< Mileth Law ]]'' \\ ===== Mileth Criminal Code: Punishment ===== The punishment system is laid out in such a way, that in the case of multiple offenses/crimes within a deoch will stack according to Levels of Punishment. When multiple crimes are committed, the crime that warrants the highest level of punishment is the starting point, and punishment is increased by one level for each additional crime committed. Any crime warranting a punishment greater than banishment will include banishment automatically, pending the exile. *Levels of Punishment* 0 - No Punishment 1 - Warning (written or verbal) 2 - Banishment 3 - 4 Moon Exile 4 - 8 Moon Exile 5 - 1 Deoch Exile 6 - 16 Moon Exile 7 - 20 Moon Exile 8 - 2 Deoch Exile* * 2 Deoch Exiles can be stacked if the outright punishment is a 2 Deoch exile. Otherwise, the punishment shall not exceed 2 Deochs. ** In the event that a crime is 'Based on Severity' for initial punishment the investigating official will determine the punishment that will be administered. The punishment for a single charge may not exceed an 8 Moon exile. Judicial Officials with the power to order exiles may decide their own exile length on a case by case basis but, it cannot exceed the stacked length or as defined in Mileth law. In instances where a malicious act is not defined by Mileth law, a Judge may temporarily create a reasonable definition and punishment with the aid of a Burgess. This must be posted and clearly identified on the Political Discourse Board. Temporary definitions are valid for two moons. It is up to legislation propose changes to law, should it make sense to do so. Stating that the issues will be presented to higher authorities is within every aislings rights and will not be considered a prohibited act. Defining an action as a criminal act when Mileth Law says that such action shall never be illegal is abuse of power.
